Andy Murray has registered for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, joining Emma Raducanu in the composition of the exhibition tournament.

Former world No.1 Murray is a two-time champion of the Middle East event, having won the inaugural title in 2009 before taking home a second trophy in 2015.

The three-time Grand Slam winner will feature in the men’s draw alongside 20-time major winner Rafael Nadal – who has won the exhibition tournament five times – as well as US Open 2020 winner Dominic Thiem, Andrey Rublev , Casper Ruud and Denis Shapovalov.

On the women’s side, US Open champion Emma Raducanu will face Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic in a single match on December 16.

“I have many happy memories of Abu Dhabi and can’t wait to go back,” said Murray.

“With Emma also playing on day one, we will be carrying the British tennis flag and looking to put on a solid demonstration.”

Murray will face Thiem on December 16 and the winner will face Nadal in the semi-finals while Rublev will face the match winner Ruud-Shapovalov in the other game of the last four games.

“Andy has a special place in Abu Dhabi as the inaugural champion of this tournament in 2009,” said John Lickrish, CEO of Flash Entertainment.

“With his return rounding out our roster, this year’s field is one of the strongest in championship history with the perfect blend of youth and experience, favorites of the Abu Dhabi crowd and exciting newbies. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic three-day festival on and off the court.
