As RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat met Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, chief imam of the All India Imam organization, in Delhi on Thursday, the Congress said it was also a reaction to Bharat Jodo Yatra from the party. He also said that if these 15 days have been so impactful for him, he should join the Bharat Jodo Yatra, tricolor in hand. “It’s only been 15 days since the Bharat Jodo Yatra started and a spokesperson for the ruling Bharatiya Janata party said ‘Godse Murdabad’, the ministers were worried about the hate spread by the media and Bhagwat reached out imams,” Pawan said. “See what happens next,” the Congress leader tweeted. The meeting was part of RSS’s ongoing outreach to different communities and faiths.

Congress Spokesman Gourav Vallabh invited Mohan Bhagwat to the Bharat Jodo Yatra and said he should walk with Rahul Gandhi with the national flag in his hand. “We ask Bhagwatji that when a few days of the yatra has had such an impact on him, he participates in the Bharat Jodo Yatra for an hour, walks with Rahul Gandhi with a tricolor in his hand, holds up the slogan of ‘Bharat mata ki jai ‘ and unite India,” Gourav Vallabh said.

On Thursday, Mohan Bhagwat visited a mosque in Kasturba Gandhi Marg and then visited Madarsa Tajweedul Quran in Azadpur. It was the first time he had visited a madrasa. A Sangh official said that while visiting the madrasa, he interacted with children who recited the Quran and shouted the slogans “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Hind”. During his exchange, he explained to them that all religions must be respected.

All India Imam organization leader Umer Ahmed Ilyasi described Mohan Bhagwat as a ‘rashtra pita’ which Bhagwat objected and said there is only one father of the nation and declared everyone to be ‘Bharat ki santan’ (child of the nation).

Earlier, Mohan Bhagwat met with Muslim scholars including former Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi, former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Zameer Uddin Shah, former MP Shahid Siddiqui and businessman Saeed Shervani. AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said those who meet Mohan Bhagwat are elite Muslims and have nothing to do with the reality on the ground.
