Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) MPs today formed a human chain demanding that party chairman Khaleda Zia be immediately released and sent overseas for better treatment.

The human chain formed in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 11:30 am today.

Lawyer Rumeen Farhana, Member of Parliament, said: “At the moment our President Khaleda Zia is fighting for her life, but she is not allowed to travel abroad for better treatment.

“Begum Zia went to prison on foot. The government will have to explain how she got so sick in just three years. If anything happens to her, the government will be held responsible,” she said.

“Khaleda Zia is the victim of political revenge. The government, according to Article 401, has the power to make any decision it wants. The Minister of Law, however, misinterprets this,” she said. added.

Another BNP MP, Harunur Rashid, said: “If Khaleda Zia is released, there will be new momentum in the country. For this reason, the government does not release her.

Hurunur Rashid called the Minister’s explanation of the Law “ridiculous”.

“The Awami League has already killed democracy and is doing it now,” he said.

Six of the seven BNP deputies were present in the human chain.
