Cochin: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the new naval pavilion in Kochi, Kerala. The new Indian Navy flag was unveiled ahead of the commissioning of the Indian Aircraft Carrier (IAC) Vikrant in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Cross of St George which had been on its flag since British rulers placed it in the pre-independence era has been removed from the new Indian Navy flag.

The elements of the new Indian Navy flag consist of the national flag (tricolor) in the upper left canton, symbolizing the national spirit of the Indian maritime force.

In the lower right corner of the flying side, the new insignia of the Indian Navy consists of the Indian national emblem with the national motto ‘Satyamev Jayate’ engraved in Devanagari script, anchor and navy motto: Shan no Varunaha (Auspicious to us oh Varuna) inside a blue octagon.

The octagon represents eight directions, symbolizing good fortune, eternity, renewal and attracts positive energy from all directions.

Interestingly, the golden border of the octagon represents the Rajmudra of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the legendary 16th century Maratha warrior, whose vision of establishing a swarajya extended beyond the land borders of his empire and ruled the seas. through its forts such as Sindhudurg, Janjira and others.
