The Marietta Kiwanis Club will host a Field of Flags event from September 4-18 to honor those who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.

MARIETTA – The whole community is invited to participate in the 20th anniversary of 9.11. Field of Flags commemorative events sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Marietta will be held September 4-18 (flag collection will take place on September 18). The Flag Field at Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park will honor and commemorate the 2,977 innocent and unsuspecting people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, with each flag representing a life lost on that tragic and horrific day of the world. history of our country.
A flag procession led by the Atlanta Pipe Band will take place on September 4 at 10:00 a.m. from Grace Community Church in Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park. Parking and the shuttle service to the church will be available from the Vieux 41 lots starting at 9 a.m. A return shuttle service will be provided.
The memorial service will be held on September 11 from 7:55 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in front of the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield National Park Visitor Center.
The ceremony will feature: Bagpiper Tommy Burns, retired speaker, NYFD Captain James D’Avolio, soloist Heather Tamburella, Marietta Fire Department color guard, 21 gun salute by county of Cobb and the presentation of the Horseless Horseman by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Department; CCSD Major Mark Rubio, bugle, will tap dance after the names of the 2,977 innocent victims are read at the end of the Ceremony.
