Dhaka: The Pakistan High Commission on Sunday removed the controversial cover photo from its Facebook page that used an allegedly “distorted” image of the national flag of Bangladesh, following strong objection from Dhaka.

The High Commission recently uploaded a collage of the national flags of Pakistan and Bangladesh as the cover photo of its official Facebook page. The collage image showed a flag that adds the moon and crescent to the original red and green flag of Bangladesh.

Addressing a press conference, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said objections had been raised over the picture of the flags of Bangladesh and Pakistan together on the Pakistan High Commission’s Facebook page and that it had been requested to remove the image.

However, I believe there is no bad motive behind this, he said.

The Pakistan High Commission removed the distorted image of the Bangladesh flag from its Facebook page around noon today (Sunday) when we asked it to do so, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson told PTI. from Bangladesh.

Several groups like ‘Bangladesh Muktijuddho Mancha’ liberation war fighters organization and ‘Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee’ had also protested the Pakistan High Commission for uploading the distorted image, calling it a humiliation of the flag of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh, known as East Pakistan, gained independence from Pakistan with crucial support from India after the nine-month war of liberation in 1971.
